Pamela Melnikoff of Edgware, Middlesex, England, has been named the winner of the Annual Golden Pen Playwriting Contest, it was announced here today by Philip Kasakove, president of the Jewish Theatre for Children, sponsors of the competition for the best full-length play for children written in English on a Jewish theme.
Miss Melnikoff will receive the $1,000 prize for her play “The Ransomed Menorah,” which will be produced by the Jewish Theatre for Children here during its 1962-63 season. Award ceremonies will take place in the fall. Judges for the contest were Frank Aston, former drama critic of the New York World Telegram and Sun; Azriel Eisenberg, executive vice president of the Jewish Education Committee of New York; Lewis Funke, drama editor of The New York Times; Norma U. Levitt, playwright; Dore Schary, producer and playwright; and Grace M. Stanistreet of Adelphi College.
