The British authorities today served warning upon the Jews that all demonstrations in the main streets of Jerusalem would be dispersed by force and Jewish traffic restricted. The warning was delivered to the executive committee of the Jerusalem Jewish Community by District Commissioner Edward Keith-Roach, speaking in the name of Major-Gen. Robert H. Haining, General Officer Commanding British forces in the Holy Land.
Arab-Jewish violence flared, meanwhile, in Haifa and Safed. It was announced officially that three Jews in a car fired into a group of Arabs in a Haifa railway station, wounding five, two of them seriously. Later, Arabs stoned Jewish traffic, slightly wounding a Jewish driver. Police dispersed the rioters, arresting one Arab.
The Arab quarter of Safed was placed under 48-hour curfew and the quater, together with neighboring Arab villages, were collectively fined £620 after a 90-minute rifle and bomb attack on the Government offices and military billets which was repulsed with the aid of reinforcements from Mount Canaan.
