While the Postmaster announced suspension of telephone, telegraph and postal services between Palestine and Rumania, it was reported here today that the British consul in Bucharest, before his departure, issued affidavits to Palestine-bound Jewish immigrants who already had certificates.
The action was taken on instructions of the Palestine Government following intervention of the Jewish Agency here. Most of the 1,000 prospective Palestine immigrants in Bucharest benefited from these facilities. Similar instructions were given to the British consul in Budapest.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Orechovsky, widow of the director of the Palestine Office in Bucharest, who was killed in the January pogrom, arrived here today together with Ussishkin, Joint Distribution Committee director in the Rumanian capital.
