The Archbishop of Canterbury. Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, told the 12th annual meeting of the British Council of Christians and Jews here today that efforts were being made to bring the Catholic Church, which several months ago withdrew from the Council, back into the organization.
“From the Roman Catholic side there is no failure to appreciate and to approve the aims and objects” for which the Council exists, Dr. Fisher said. “But the Vatican was not satisfied with some of the ways and means adopted by the Council in pursuit of those aims. Because of that dissatisfaction the resignation took place.” he added.
“The Council of Christians and Jews is happy to recognize that on the Roman Catholic side there is no differing about the aims and objects of the Council and that the criticism was confined to some of its methods,” the Archbishop of Canterbury emphasized.
