An American woman journalist, found among the passengers seized by the British authorities two days ago aboard the Jewish refugee ship “Four Freedoms,” is being held incommunicado, it was learned today.
The woman correspondent is reliably reported to be Claire Neikind of the Overseas News Agency, who left Rome between two and three weeks ago for a secret rendezvous with the illegal immigrant ship. British authorities here refused to give the name of the American newspaperwoman. They also declined to reveal whether she was transferred to Cyprus with the 1,200 immigrants seized aboard the “Four Freedoms.”
The “Four Freedoms” refugees who landed at Famagusta yesterday were sent to the Caraolos camp near there today. A number of the Jews who were suffering from exhaustion were transported by stretcher.
