Sir William Strang, British Permanent Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, was today received by Israeli Premier David Ben Gurion in a two-and-a-half hour session. Also present at the talks were British Minister to Tel Aviv Alexander Knox Helm and Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett and his assistant, Michael Comay.
The diplomats reviewed the general situation as it affects Israel and Britain and the prospects of Israeli-British cooperation to raise the standard of living in the Near East, They also touched on the Arab refugee problem. President Weizmann will receive Sir William tomorrow.
Archbishop Hakim, Greek Orthodox prelate of Haifa, yesterday called on Israeli Minister of Religion Rabbi Judah Maimon and requested that Arab members of his church who fled Israel be permitted to return. The Archbishop also called on David Pincas, Mizrachi deputy in the Knesset, and asked his assistance in gaining permission for Arab refugees to rejoin their families who remained in Israel.
