The magazine Aeroplane tells the story of a German pilot who was shot down and wounded and who kept up a running fire of abuse against England, the doctors and nurses, while his wounds were being treated and generally behaved arrogantly.
He was given a blood transfusion and nurses settled him down in bed with the words: “Now, my lad, you have two pints of good Jewish blood in you. We hope it will improve your manners.”
