Both the Foreign Office and the Colonial Office today denied a report that the British Government intends to issue a new statement on Palestine.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed that Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin met during the week-end with members of the Jewish Agency executive in Paris “presumably under the latter’s initiative and apparently to follow up suggestions by the Jewish Agency to participate in the London conference.” The Government’s reply to these suggestions is anticipated shortly, the spokesman said.

London newspapers emphasize that they will not be surprised if the Jewish Agency rejects the invitation to attend the conference on Palestine, as did the Palestine Arab Higher Committee. However, they predict that the British Government will impose a solution of the Palestine problem which will be acceptable to both Jews and Arabs.

In order to counteract the anti-Zionist campaign which is developing throughout Britain, the Board of Deputies of British Jews today issued a fifteen-point pamphlet on the Palestine issue, giving facts on its political background and describing the character of the Haganah. The pamphlet will be distributed all over Britain.
