Agreement by the British Government to the opening of an Arab League office in London was announced today in the House of Commons by Privy Seal Heath. He said that the head of the Arab League office would not have diplomatic status.
The announcement provoked a question by Sir Leslie Plummer, Laborite member of Parliament, whether it had been made clear to the Arab League that its office would not be “welcome here if it is going to be used to spy on British firms trading with Israel or to organize a boycott against firms trading with Israel or to publish anti-Semitic propaganda in this country.” The Privy Seal replied that the Arab office would be expected “to conduct itself in a normal and proper manner.”
