The British Government is studying the question of balancing arms shipments to Israel, as well as action to ban all arms shipments to the Middle East, J. Harvey, a junior minister, told the House of Commons today.
Responding to a question about what action Britain plans to take under the Tripartite Declaration of 1950 or through the United Nations to ban arms shipments, Mr. Harvey said “we are examining the situation” but “at the moment we do not think it appropriate to take further action.” To a query about supplying Israel with weapons to balance shipments to the Arab states, Mr. Harvey replied: “We are keeping this matter very closely before us, but I cannot give you any definite answer today.”
