Although the British Government does not recognize the right of the Israeli Government to try Frederick Sylvester, Briton arrested, tried and convicted of broadcasting military information about the Jews to the Arabs, it will make sure that he has the best defense facilities, Christopher Mayhew, Foreign Under Secretary today told Commons. Sylvester is currently appealing a seven-year sentence to the Palestine Supreme Court.
(In Jerusalem defense counsel for Sylvester today completed presentation of his appeal to the Palestine Supreme Court to set aside Sylvester’s conviction by the Jerusalem district court. The defense presentation took up four court days. The Attorney General immediately began the state’s case. A verdict is expected some time toward the end of the week.)
