British Foreign Office sources indicated today that the British-Israeli financial talks now taking place in Tel Aviv are proceeding smoothly. “Nothing is known here about differences of opinion concerning the agenda of the conference,” it was stated.
Conversations on Middle East questions were scheduled to get under way here today between officials of the British Foreign Office and Roland de Margerie, French representative who arrived yesterday. These talks are described as a normal exchange of views. They are intended to touch upon every current topic in the Middle East in a manner which the French describe as a “tour d’horizon.”
Authoritative British quarters say the exchange of views is not occasioned by any specific development, but rather was planned long ago as reciprocation for British officials’ visits to Paris.
The Iraq Petroleum Company’s pipeline from Kirkuk to the refineries at Haifa was reported here today to have been damaged at a point about nine and a half miles inside the Hashemite Kingdom. This is near the spot where the pipeline enters Israeli territory. No details were available here. The report follows recent rumors that oil would soon begin to flow throuth the line, which was closed in April, 1948.
