Isaac Wolfson, British financier who is negotiating to take over Shell Oil’s marketing facilities in Israel, will fly to Israel early next week for conferences with Israel Finance Minister Levi Eshkol over certain problems which have arisen in his talks with Shell, it was reported today.
The obstacles that have arisen, it was stated, did not involve the price the Wolfson interests would have to pay for the Shell facilities, but other financial and technical questions. It was expected that negotiations would be completed in about ten days and the deal finalized.
Shell Oil and British Petroleum – the latter a corporation controlled by the British Government – announced early last summer that they were ceasing operations in Israel by the end of this year. Although they asserted this action was taken for “commercial” reasons, there was general belief that it was in deference to the Arab boycott of Israel
