A meeting of the United Jewish Relief Appeal here, last night, addressed by Dr. Joseph Schwartz, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee, voted to contribute $12,000 for the purchase of food parcels to be sent to Polish-Jewish refugees in Russia. The funds will be disbursed in cooperation with the JDC.

Chief Rabbi Hertz, who presided, told the meeting that it would be unwise to leave the entire burden of relief for European Jewry on the shoulders of American Jews and that it would be “vain and harmful” for English Jews to act independently. He suggested, therefore, that British Jewish relief groups affiliate with the JDC. Dr. Schwartz disclosed that only 3,000 Jewish refugees remain in Spain, for whose maintenance JDC is spending $100,000 monthly.
