British Jewry will be asked to raise 2,000,000 pounds ($5,600,000) for Israel needs in 1953 through the Joint Palestine Appeal, it was announced here today by the organization.
The campaign will be launched by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, chairman of the Jewish Agency, at a dinner at Grosvenor House February 21. The more than 1,000 guests at the dinner are expected to subscribe one-quarter of the total goal. Dr. Goldmann will also inaugurate local J.P.A. drives in various major cities throughout Britain.
The goal for next year will be the same as in 1952, although only 1,200,000 pounds were raised in 1952. An official J.P.A. announcement today revealed that less than six percent of the amount collected last year was used for administrative purposes.
