A resolution pledging the Jewish National Fund of Britain to raise an additional $4,000,000 toward a revised 1948 goal of $10,000,000 was adopted at two parallel meetings of the J.N.F. attended by some 800 delegates. The second meeting consisted of an overflow of delegates who could not be accommodated at the major parley.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews, at a meeting yesterday marked with the greatest degree of unity ever achieved between Zionists and non-Zionists in the organization, adopted a resolution calling on the British Government “to reverse its policy of supplying Arab states with arms and money which are being used to resist the carrying out of the United Nations decision of November last. This policy has, in contradiction of all the noble ideals for which Britain has stood in the past, culminated in an attack on the Holy City led by British officers and fed by British money and arms,” the resolution continued.
The name of Rabbi Israel Brodie, senior Jewish chaplain in the British armed forces, will be submitted for election as the Chief Rabbi of the British Empire to a special conference called for May 30, it was revealed here today. Rabbi Brodie was chosen unanimously by a special committee appointed by the major Jewish religious bodies of Britain for the purpose of selecting candidates.
