British Labor Party policy continues to favor an Anglo-Israel security pact and an adequate supply of defensive arms for the Jewish State as long as there is no total embargo on arms to the Middle East, Anthony Greenwood, Labor MP, declared here today upon his arrival for a ten-day visit to Israel as a guest of the Israel Government. He added that British public opinion was “greatly disturbed” by recent Middle Eastern events.
A similar view was expressed in Jerusalem yesterday by Alfred Robens, foreign policy expert of the British Labor party and one of the Eden government’s goads in Commons. Mr. Robens told a press conference that he could think of nothing that had recently aroused British public opinion as much as the disposal of surplus war material to Egypt. The shipment of British surplus tanks and Czech arms to Egypt have upset the balance of power in the Middle East, he insisted.
