Great Britain and the East, which frequently mirrors Colonial Office opinion, today demanded an investigation into what it called the assumption that the Arab population of Palestine must remain stationary, apart from natural increase, while the Jewish population is constantly increased by immigration.

In an editorial justifying illegal Arab immigration and attacking the Jewish Agency for Palestine for illegal Jewish immigration, the weekly reported the Agency as “a state within a state.” (The Agency is recognized as representing the Jewish people in Palestine affairs under the League of Nations mandate.)

“None denies the existence of illegal Arab immigration,” the editorial said, “but it is impossible to compare it with Jewish illicits since there are very few illicit Jews about whom the Agency is not aware. Thus, if the Jewish Agency were only passing its information to the authorities, the problem would have been easier to be treated.”
