Various terms of imprisenment were imposed today upon displaced Jews for participating in a demonstration in the city of Hanover against the Bevin statement on Palestine, according to a report by Reuters.
Marian Lipke, chairman of the committee of displaced Jews at Finnherst, a section of Hanover, was sentenced to six months imprisonment. Others received milder sentences.
Speaking for the British Government, John Hynde, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, today told the House of Cormons that press reports about the poor treatment of displaced Jews in the British zone in Germany are without foundation. He declared that Zionist activities are not being restricted and that no consorship of newspapers exists in the Bergen-Belson camp.
