British Officer Killed, Englishwoman, Jew Wounded in Arab Ambuscade

A British air officer was killed today and an Englishwoman and Jewish youth were seriously wounded in an Arab ambuscade near the site of the High Commissioner’s summer camp at Sarafend, northwest of Jerusalem. The Arabs fired on a taxi and a bus, killing Squadron Leader R.E. Aldershon, attached to the Royal Air Force hospital at Sarafend, wounding Miss Newman, who was staying at Sarafend, and inflicting a dangerous leg wound on Shalom Markower, the Jew. Two Jewish trucks were caught in the ambuscade, but suffered no casualties.
