Foreign Under Secretary Ernest Davies today refused to divulge in Commons the extent of British arms shipments to Egypt.
Replying to a query from the floor, Mr. Davies said that it was “contrary to usual practice” to reveal such figures, but admitted under further questioning that “a few jet planes have been provided” recently to the Arab state. He insisted that there was no parallel situation pertaining to Israel since Britain was under no treaty obligations to sell arms to the Jewish state.
