Most of the British press today supported the plea made yesterday in the House of Lords by the Archbishop of York for the internationalization of Jerusalem. The Times said that the Archbishop’s plea will find support among Christians the world over. It added that although the honesty of the undertakings by President Chaim Weizmann and King Abdullah would not be doubted, they would not dispel the belief that a special arrangement would be required.
The News Chronicle urged the state of Israel today to “give Jerusalem to the word. It would be a great sacrifice,” the paper stated, “but also a great gesture and a permanent memorial to the often forgotten truth that bitterness, blood and strife do not remain in the souls of men forever”
