Scotland Yard’s special branch is investigating the activities of Hitler’s “fifth column” here which is “endeavoring to spread internal dissension by stirring up hatred against the Jews,” the Evening Standard reports.

The inquiries are particularly directed toward discovering the source of the funds financing peace propaganda. According to the Standard, both Berlin and Moscow are believed to be contributing to the “peace at any price” campaign.

While the Government is anxious not to limit the right of free speech, the paper states, the disclosures of “fifth column” activities in Denmark and Norway has caused closer attention to be paid to organizations responsible for anti-war propaganda here.

Leigh Vaughan Henry, described as an author, has been fined £25 and bound over for six months for making insulting remarks against Jews in the course of an address at a meeting of the Nationalist Association.
