Two American Jewish scientists, Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, the nuclear physicist, who helped develop the atomic bomb, and Dr. Fritz Lipmann, a member of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research, were elected this weekend as fellows of Britain’s Royal Society.
Dr. Oppenheimer was cited for his “contributions to the modern quantum theory” and Dr. Lipmann for “contributions to biochemistry, especially for enzymology and cell metabolism.”
