The United Synagogue of Great Britain, one of the most influential Jewish religious organizations, will be represented at the forthcoming conference on the Jewish Agency, called under the auspices of the Board of Jewish Deputies.
Doubt as to whether the United Synagogue could be represented prevailed in view of the provisions of the constitution according to which its activities must be confined to its territorial limits, precluding its official participation in movements outside of those limits. The matter was taken up and fully discussed at a meeting of the United Synagogue Council last night with Sir Robert Waley-Cohen, vice-president, in the chair.
The Council went on record as declaring that it sees no objection to the Board of Jewish Deputies inviting twelve members of the Council to participate in the conference on the Jewish Agency. This was regarded as the best way to overcome the legal difficulty.
