The spiritual qualities that guided Abraham Lincoln to victory actuate Great Britain today in its struggle with Germany and Italy, it was asserted today by Chief Rabbi Joseph H. Hertz in a Great Synagogue sermon marking a day of prayer and intercession for triumph of the forces of freedom.
Dr. Hertz compared Britain’s attitude to the “spirit of anxiety to be on the side of the Lord which dominated Abraham Lincoln and led him to victory.” He expressed confidence in Britain’s ultimate victory “desperate as our enemies proclaim the situation to be.”
