The British section of the World Jewish Congress has urged United Nations Secretary-General U Thant to arrange an immediate investigation of the plight of Jews in Arab countries and to use his influence with the governments concerned to halt their “inhuman” treatment. The telegram to Mr. Thant, signed by Jacob Halevy, chairman of the British section, expressed “profound anxiety” over the conditions of Jews in Egypt, Iraq and Syria. (In Buenos Aires today, a telegram deploring the situation of Jews in Arab countries was sent to Mr. Thant by the DAIA, central representative body of Argentine Jewry.)
