A proposal stating that the Anglo-Jewish Association “would welcome any offer of His Majesty’s Government of suitable territory on an autonomous basis for Jews who cannot or will not remain in the lands where they presently live,” will be offered for consideration at the annual meeting of the Association on November 2, it was learned here today. The Association’s Palestine policy will be decided upon at that meeting, when the above proposal as well as the memorandum on Palestine already drawn up by the organization will be worked out in final form.
Meanwhile, Lavy Bekstansky, secretary of the British Zionist Federation, addressing a Zionist meeting in Manchester today, declared that the Association’s memorandum, and its plan to seek separate negotiations with the government on the Palestine question, will strike a blow against the struggle for a Jewish Commonwealth in Palestine. He appealed to the Association to refrain from action “which will be interpreted by Jews throughout the world as an attempt to frustrate the real purpose of the Balfour Declaration.”
