Hitler is on “good behavior” as regards the Saar, Sir Herbert Ames, British statesman and League of Nations authority, told students and faculty members of the University of Rochester today.
The Englishman, expressing the hope and expectation that the Saar, with its rich coal and iron deposits, will be restored to Germany, stated Hitler’s knowledge that he alone can alienate the Saar from Germany is the reason for his good behavior. If Hitler doesn’t interfere with the German Catholics and Socialists, Sir Herbert said, there is no doubt that the Saar vote will favor Germany.
