The town of Ramat Gan has become the first municipality in Israel to be governed by a coalition of the Alignment (Mapai and Achdut Avodah) and Gahal (Herut and the Liberal Party), groups that were hitherto in opposition.
The combination came about when the Alignment agreed to join the Gahal-led coalition, headed by Mayor Abraham Krinitzi of Gahal, who continues as mayor while the Alignment’s Uriel Abramovitz takes the post of deputy mayor. The agreement, which gives the coalition 17 of the 21 seats on the town council, was approved at a meeting of the municipality last night.
