The eighth annual dinner and ball of the Brooklyn Federation of Jewish Charities will be given Sunday night, Nov. 13, at the St. George Hotel, and Arnold M. Schmidt, an outstanding figure in Jewish communal and philanthropic activities for many years, long a leader in Federation affairs, has accepted the chairmanship for the event, it was announced today at Federation headquarters.
A charge of fifty dollars is made for each person attending the dinner and ball, which is the chief event of the year in Jewish social life in Brooklyn, and it was said at the Federation offices that it was expected that between one thousand and fifteen hundred persons will make reservations for the affair. It is anticipated that the dinner and ball will yield $50,000 to $75,000 which will be added to other funds raised by the Federation for the benefit of the twenty-five affiliated societies.
The Federation’s annual dinner and ball was inaugurated in 1925 under the chairmanship of Justice Edward Lazansky, and has ever been one of the Federation’s chief affairs for raising funds for the constituent societies.
The opening meeting of the Jewish Fellowship organized for the dissemination of a knowledge of Judaism and the discussion of Jewish topics will take place Sunday afternoon, September 11th, at 5 o’clock at the Hotel Astor, Broadway and 44th Street.
Rabbi I. L. Bril, the founder and leader of the Jewish Fellowship will speak on : “Will the Present Civilization Survive?”
