Brotherhood Day, which will be observed by Protestants, Catholics and Jews throughout the country on Sunday, February 24, was endorsed yesterday by Governor Herbert H. Lehman. The endorsement was in the form of a letter sent by the Governor to Dr. Robert A. Ashworth, educational secretary of the National Conference of Jews and Christians, under whose auspices the observance will be held.
“I have taken note that Brotherhood Day, initiated last year by the National Conference of Jews and Christians, will be observed this year on February 24,” Governor Lehman wrote.
DATE HELD SIGNIFICANT
“It is particularly fitting that the date of observance should coincide so closely with the birthday of the first President of the United States whose broad spirit was a mighty force in developing better understanding and good-will between the racial and religious groups of our country.
“I am confident that the observance of Brotherhood Day throughout the country will do much to stimulate the interest of all groups and all faiths in those things which are for the common good.”
Brotherhood Day will be observed this year in more than 600 communities in every State of the Union under the national chairmanship of Dr. John H. Finley, educator and publicist.
