Less than ten per cent of Jews or those who are regarded as Jews under the Hungarian electoral law have applied for admittance to the electoral lists, it became known here today.
The approximate number of Jews and those regarded as Jews in Budapest is 74,000. Of this number, only some 6,000 have applied under the law prescribing that only those Jews have the right to vote who themselves or whose ancestors have lived in Hungary since 1867. Many Jews are not in a position to apply for listing because of the tremendous difficulties encountered when searching for the necessary documents attesting to their status.
