It was made by Dr. Ehrlich, Jewish member of the council, who called on the council to provide financial support for Jewish welfare and educational purposes in the same proportion as for non-Jews.
The Lord Mayor, who presided at the session, expressed agreement with the demands of Dr. Ehrlich for equality of treatment for the Jews and promised to examine the financial requests of the Jewish community organizations.
The Austrian government must act at once to halt the ruthless anti-Jewish boycott campaign now under way and which is being intensified by the Austrian Nazi press, now once again in the open, Die Stimme, organ of the Austrian Zionists, demanded today.
Among the anti-Jewish Nazi papers named by Stimme are the Arische Wochenschrift, Arische Wochenschau, and the Aka Nachrichten published by the “Aryan” credit cooperatives.
“This sytematic campaign of slander against the Jewish people is unhindered by the Austrian government,” Die Stimme declared, asking, “why cannot the government apply existing laws against the methods imported from Nazi Germany, which do nothing but harm Austria abroad?”
