General Lazarov, the Commandant of the city of Sofia, speaking this week at the annual festival of the Jewish orphanage “Tzaritza Eleaonara” lauded the patriotism of the Jews of Bulgaria.

“These little orphans are the living evidence of the patriotism of our Jewish citizens. The Jews of Bulgaria have paid to the full their tribute of blood to the country,” the General declared. “On the field of battle I learned to know these brave Jews well. His Majesty King Boris, the Minister for War, General Valkoff, I myself and all the officers and soldiers, companions in arms of the parents of these orphan children, thank you publicly for the interest you have shown in this patriotic work, of bringing up these children to become patriotic and capable citizens.”
