The Jewish Consistory of Bulgaria, the body representing the Jewish religious congregations of the country, expressed dissatisfaction with an order issued by the Minister of Education concerning the budgets and maintenance of the national minorities schools in the country.
The order suggested that the Jewish schools be maintained on funds raised by the Jewish communities and by tuition fees received by the parents. The communities are to furnish two-thirds of the budget, while one-third is to be derived from fees. The Consistory demands that the schools be subsidized by the government.
Twenty-one schools with an enrollment of 3,525 pupils are under the control of the Consistory, with an annual budget of 7,500,000 Levas.
