Bulgarian Jews desiring to emigrate to Palestine will be obliged to abandon all property and sign waivers of future claims, the Sofia radio announced today.
The broadcast quoted an announcement by the Palestine Office in Sofia, which arranges for the emigration of Jews, revealing that it has been informed by the Ministry of the Interior that emigrants will be required to sign a declaration abandoning all moveable and immovable property and renouncing all claims against banks or individuals. It was also told that children and youths will not be permitted to leave the country without their parents.
(In an interview with a Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent on November 21, Minister of the Interior Anton Yugov said that the ban on emigration was to be lifted soon and that the Government was not opposed to the emigration of Jews who were not eligible for military service.)
Today’s broadcast also disclosed that a Jewish school has been reopened in Sofia and that 600 pupils are in attendance. About 300 of these, it said, are fed in a “peoples kitchen” which has been set up in the school’s gymnasium.
