The Anglo-American inquiry committee’s findings that most of the Jews in Eastern European countries, aside from the USSR, desire to emigrate does not apply to Bulgaria, the Central Jewish Consistory said today.
In a statement challenging the committee’s observations, the Consistory pointed out that despite the anti-Semitic policy of the farmer fascist governments, not a single Bulgarian Jew was deported because of the resistance of the Bulgarian people. It also stressed that the anti-Semites have been punished and that a law restoring confiscated Jewish property and barring racial hatred has been issued by the present government.
The statement further expressed the hope that the peace conference will take these actions into account when deciding upon terms for Bulgaria.
