Thomas J. Ford, State Procurement Officer in the United States Treasury Department, announced late today he had suspended Hubert W. Eldred, an employee of the division, as of noon for “engaging in activities outside his duties” during office time.
Mr. Ford said the suspension was made pending investigation. He was in conference with Mr. Eldred all afternoon and will continue the investigation tomorrow. He will then file a report with officials in Washington, he said.
Meanwhile, WPA Administrator Somervell announced a three-day disciplinary suspension with a reprimand for William L. Matter, Senior WPA Personnel Advisor in Manhattan and National Adjutant General of the Veterans Reserve Corp., for using office time for activities of the corps.
