U.N. Palestine mediator Dr. Ralph J. Bunche warned last night that there was danger of renewed fighting on the Syrian-Israeli frontier unless the Tel Aviv and Damascus governments could reach an armistice agreement. Dr. Bunche spoke at a Waldorf-Astoria dinner tendered in his honor by the National Conference of Christians and Jews which was attended by more than 1,000 guests.
Declaring that Israel and Syria “now have under consideration a compromise proposal which I submitted to them yesterday,” Dr. Bunche added: “I earnestly hope that it will assist them in bridging the gap which thus far had prevented agreement.”
