The West German Social Democratic party introduced a motion in the Bundestag, Lower House, to extend by four years the time limit for prosecution of former Nazis.
The motion proposed by the opposition party would extend the limit, which under present law, is next May 8, to May 8, 1964. In the absence of such an extension, former Nazis will be immune to prosecution after next May 8.
A theory widely expressed in defense of Dr. Hans Globke, West German State Secretary under attack for having written a commentary to the Nuremberg racial laws, that he did so to give protection to Germany’s Jews was challenged today by the Social Democratic Party press bulletin.
The bulletin contended that Dr. Globke’s elaborations “Justified the racist ideology and went beyond legal interpretations ” of the laws. According to the bulletin, the in Globke commentary not only did not help the Jews but placed them at a disadvantage in situations where even the Nazis might have shown some leniency.
