Dr. Eugen Gerstenmaier, president of the Bundestag. West Germany’s lower house, will be called as a defense witness in the trial of Adolf Beckerle, the former German Minister in Sofia, who is accused of having participated in the mass deportation of Bulgarian Jews during World War II. The defense counsel alleged that Dr. Gerstenmaier had contacts with Mr. Beckerle during the war.
