The first group of foreign Jews to be admitted into Biro-Bidjan will be selected in Lithuania, it was officially announced here today.
The announcement states that M. Rashkes, former chairman of the Bureya district, will arrive here shortly to select the first 150 Jews for Biro-Bidjan in accordance with the recent decision of the Soviet government to admit several thousand Jews this year into the Jewish autonomous district in the Fart East.
The Jews selected will be provided by the Soviet government with fare and food as soon as they reach the Soviet frontier.
JEWS ASK PROTECTION
A delegation of Jews from the townships of Kurshan and Shawli appeared today before the Lithuanian Minister of Interior asking him to protect the Jewish population in these townships against anti-Semitic attacks.
A third group of young people from Berlin and other cities in Germany, thirty-five in number, today arrived at the Ort farm in Kalinowo, near Kaunas, which is the second farm established by the ORT for training young Jews from Germany.
