The United States government and the American public are aware of their responsibility to strengthen Israel, Arthur Burns, chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board said today. Mr. Burns spoke at Lydda Airport prior to his departure for home following a short visit. He also said, “Israel has made great strides forward in her economic development but there were some indications causing concern” because of the strain on the economy caused by the war effort. While in Israel, Mr. Burns held talks with the Governor and senior officials of the Bank of Israel and was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy by Hebrew University.
