A rare case in the history of Orthodox Jewry came up today in the Chicago Circuit Court before Judge Kavanaugh, when a Jewish butcher. Israel Lieberman, applied for an injunction against Chicago Rabbis and Vaad Hakashrus, the committee which supervises the supply of kosher meat.
Lieberman was selling treipha meat for kosher and the Rabbis warned the Jewish public not to buy meat at his shop. As a result Lieberman sued the Rabbis today. The case was argued in court for several hours. Many Chicago Rabbis were present and quoted the Bible and Talmud on the question of Kosher meat.
The judge refrained from issuing the injunction, declaring that the Rabbis are the highest authorities in the matter.
