Buttenweiser Hall, one of the auditoriums of the New York Y. M. H. A. at 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue will be formally opened today with religious services celebrating Succoth, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles. This auditorium, which is located in the second floor of the new eleven story building of the New York Y. M. H. A. was presented to that organization by Mrs. Leah H. Buttenweiser, at a cost of $50,000, in memory of her husband, Laemmlin Buttenweiser, who died in this city in 1901.
The original intention of Mrs. Buttenweiser was to cooperate with the officers of the Y. W. H. A. in the establishment of a branch of that organization on the West Side of the city, but when it was decided that all of its activities should be concentrated in one large building, she consented to the inclusion of an auditorium in the new edifice at 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, bearing her late husband’s name.
