By threatening to veto $550 million assistance to Israel, President Ford not only “hurts” Israel, but “undermines the credibility of American foreign policy commitments,” Dr. Judah J. Shapiro, president of the Labor Zionist Alliance, declared in an address before the LZA’s National Executive Committee. In addition, he said. “This would be the first time in the history of the Jewish State than an American President would officially oppose aid to Israel.” He called on Ford and Congress to grant the aid.
