The Cabinet was in session for five hours today, for 90 minutes as a ministerial security committee whose deliberations concerning security matters is top secret. Cabinet Secretary Michael Arnon would say only that the topics discussed related to recent events on the northern and southern fronts. Reports were heard from Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, Chief of Staff Gen. David Elazar and Chief of Intelligence Gen. Eliahu Zeira.

The Cabinet once again failed to agree on the size of the small ministerial security committee which Premier Golda Meir has called for. The idea is for a smaller, more efficient body to replace the full Cabinet which meets periodically in secret session–as it did today–on security matters. The upshot was the naming of a three-member committee–consisting of Deputy Premier Yigal Allon, Interior Minister Yosef Burg and Minister of Tourism Moshe Kol–to recommend the optimal size for a new security committee.
