The Cabinet is scheduled to devote a special session soon to the plight of Soviet Jewry. Premier Shimon Peres agreed to hold such a meeting at the request of Tehiya MK Geula Cohen. He said he would give top priority to the subject. Yaakov Tsur, Absorption Minister, also said that the government should devote greater efforts to save Soviet Jewry, especially the aliya activists, whose situation has worsened recently. Tsur complained that there was considerable apathy in the public toward the plight of Soviet Jewry. He said that only continuous pressure by world public opinion could prevent the Soviet authorities from suppressing Soviet Jews.
