Cairo newspapers continued the Soviet-Arab propaganda war against Israel today by boldly announcing that the armies of the United Arab Republic had taken up positions to enter into action against Israel in the event Israeli forces attack the Kingdom of Jordan.
Some Cairo dailies said the Israeli attack, aimed to seize territory on the west bank of the Jordan River, would be launched next Monday when young King Hussein leaves his beleaguered kingdom on vacation. One newspaper said Hussein was leaving “on permanent vacation.”
The papers also featured reports that Iraq and Lebanon had pledged armed support to President Gamal Abdel Nasser in the event of war with Israel.
